The St. Patrick’s Day! TShirt design by Brian Gibbs features a naughty little leprechaun creating some nasty mischief with his pot o’ poop and some gold spray paint.
A leprechaun is a creature from Irish folklore and even linked to Irish mythology. These little guys have since grown into a symbol of St. Patrick’s day, which is actually a rather odd occurrence given the fact that St. Patrick’s day is deeply rooted in catholic beliefs and of course the tales of fairies and sprites are far from such, but nevertheless things intertwine to make a holiday what it need be for a celebration and that is where the mischievous leprechaun comes into play.
The leprechaun was told to have been born of a fairy and an evil spirit, he is not good, nor is he evil. He is known to be a prankster, make mischief and trouble wherever he may, if for nothing more than his own amusement. It is told a leprechaun will collect gold coins in a pot and is very protective of his gold which he hides at the end of the rainbow. It is also told that if ever captured by a human a leprechaun will grant three wishes for his release.
With that all told, this design does not only seem funny, it also seems brilliant! What a clever thing for a silly little prankster like this to do. The smell would be dreadful, but hey, this guy has magic powers, he could take care of that. The one thing that came to mind when looking at this design was ‘Luck of the Irish my ASS!’.
The design itself is very funny no doubt and it is actually nice to see the leprechaun looking like one is said to look and not like a little red headed clown on a cereal box. Leprechauns are actually supposed to be red, but if anyone created one with a red suit these days most people would have no clue what was going on. The lighting is a bit inconsistent, but the design is great and serves its purpose very well.
