The Castle-To-Go T-shirt design by SingularStep features the two main characters Richard Castle and Kate Beckett from the hit show Castle drawn up as disposable coffee cups shackled at their bases with handcuffs.
First off, this clever design captures the essence of the two characters very well. In the show, coffee is a bonding device of Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion of Firefly) and Kate Becket (Stana Katic of the film Quantum of Solace). It has the coffee sleeves which represent the bullet proof vests from the show that read “Writer” and “Police”. The caricatures on the cups are recognizable enough to pull off the concept.
Second, the details of hearts for twinkles in the Castle cup’s eyes is subtle yet accurate for the feelings that Castle actually has for Kate. Kate’s cup stares off into space with this nonchalant and playing hard-to-get expression, also true to her character. The handcuffs also bind the two together, not as often as coffee but it does come up in the show more than once.
The shading is consistent, the layout is clean, and the concept is solid though a bit on the cutesy side. It is full of obscure references that only fans of the show would understand.
One nit pick, the steam should had been on Becket’s cup though, as she is the one that is hot, as Fillion’s character is portrayed as being “cool”.
